About this blog

This blog is about my current model railroad layout project; The N scale "Summit" layout, which is a freelanced interpretation of the Southern Pacific Tehachapi tunnels and their surroundings. Or at least, that is what it is meant to be. What it will turn out to be is another matter. The banner photo above shows what I want to recreate in N scale.

Benchwork Coming Up

Benchwork and backdropPosted by lennart Sat, April 12, 2008 21:42:34

The benchwork has started to come up. It is a simple grid, resting on the metal brackets. Nothing fancy, but it worked fine for my old Tap Creek layout.

The picture below shows what it is looks like at this stage.

I will lay plywood on the grid and extruded foam on top of that. The foom boards alone are sturdy enough for N scale so the plywood is really not needed. However, since I might install switch machines I will need something to screw them to. That is the only reason for the plywood.

The raised pieces of wood along the walls will be used to hold the backdrop.
